In the region of the Ogowe River in south-central Gabon live the Punu, the Ashira and the Lumbo people. These related tribes share similarities in their masks with white faces or black. The white-faced masks, signifying the afterworld, are used by stilt dancers for funery ceremonies.
This mask has lost it white color somehow and shoes a fine sandy tone instead.
Belongs to the collection of Boris Kegel-Konietzko since 1954 and comes with original collectors etiquette No. 21365.
