Many tribes in many parts of today’s Central Congo use a multitude of power figures for magical purposes, rituals and oracles. Standing on the floor they were decorated or glued with further attributes.
The power of this Janus face lies in being able to see similarly the future and past which can be of great help solving everyday problems.
Despite its old damage at the base and on one of the two mouths this figure does not loose anything of its expression. The wood is magnificently aeruginoused and shines due to its frequent usage. |
