Female Kifwebe-Mask

Price: 3.500 €
Story:
This type of mask appeared for the first time shortly after 1900. The word kifwebe means nothing else than “mask”. The tribe which uses this mask called Bwadi ya Kifwebe is said to have exceptional influence. It was used in the course of initiation ceremonies and for the induction or the funeral of high-ranking persons. There are male and female types, whereas the male – depending on the rank - has a more or less high parting crown.

The interaction of colour and design make this piece of art to a graphic prime example. The age should extend well beyond the date of purchase.
