This old and from usage very nicely marked bellow belongs probably to the rarer and definitely defined as a curiosity of African articles in daily use which found their way to Europe. Its remarkable dimensions make it to a highly decorative and unique piece.
The functionality of this important device is simple, effective and could even be called sociable: lying flat on the ground the air is being pumped via a balloon like cover into both ‘cheeks’. This procedure is carried out by two women sitting and synchronized. The result is a steady stream of air from the bottom end of the bellow. |
